    IBE 2011 Thoughts...

Friends on my facebook page are probably annoyed of my constant postings of this past weekend's IBE festivities. Full disclosure: All video you see here in this post is property of The Notorious IBE and they deserve full credit for their production value.

With that out of the way, time to share. I've recently gotten the dancing itch again. I've been dancing for a little over 10 years [which is peanuts compared to most established bboys and other dancers]. Everyday, after work, I go to practice. For the past year, or so, I've been trying to practice more. It initially was to maintain my girlish figure and to keep some sort of playful balance in my life. It also didn't help that I took a three year sabbatical and my form was a bit, well, crap.

    Bboy Culture: "4 Steelo"

To inquire about donations and further support venture over to the Bboy Spot.  Or if you want to donate directly to Steelo, he has a paypal account [steelo444@gmail.com].

I'd normally talk your ear off about now, but I think the video says everything and more. I'm kind of in awe of how amazing the bboy community is right now.

Commercial Break: Killafornia vs Skill Methodz

Not even the end of January and I'm very close to calling this the battle of the year. If you've clicked on the Videos tab on the left you've probably noticed a couple videos and battles of Florida's Skill Methodz crew. This is the first battle I've seen of Killafornia in quite sometime and had no idea Lil John & Machine were apart of the crew.

Be that as it may, these words aren't really describing the clip itself. If you follow bboying then you know that this is one of those special kind of battles where you just have grin and happy you seen it [even if it is in video format]. Shame we couldn't get the final set, but I'm sure this will be enough to get me back on the floor.

Commercial Break: The New Age Of Headspins

For the people who know me in real life and think I 'do the spinny thing'. No, I don't, I use to. In this clip you'll see Aicha [Japan], Lazer [Korea] and my personal favorite Boom [Korea]. Three people [barring the legendary Storm] who are responsible for evolving one of the oldest powermoves in the bboy community. Enjoy.

Bboy Battle: Thesis [KHCA] vs. Lancer [Calamities]

I love to give props to well made videos and well thrown events. Props to both Thesis and Lancer. Thesis is clearly on another level as far as flow and the dance as a whole, but look at Lancer! Very technically sound, seen him flub a couple footwork steps, but he rolled with it and really surprised me with how in tune with the music he was.

Bboy Discussion: R-16 As An Idea

I found myself lurking the Bboyworld forums [which is usually never a good sign that your day is going in the right direction] and I came across a fairly interesting discussion involving this Korean hosted event called R-16. Its an event that is fairly reminiscent of the Olympics and/or the World Cup.

    Turn It Loose Trailer

A handful of the people reading this page know I am a huge fan and enthusiast of the hiphop culture. Even as of this day I am a practicing bboy. But it doesn't matter how large or small of a jam I have been to, I am always amazed at how large this culture has gotten. I see fashion and slang influenced by the style or the music, but I never would have thought for one minute documentaries would be made with bboying/bgirling as the focal point. I hope Turn It Loose is as good as this trailer touts it to be. If it is the event I think it is, then...well, I have feelings on Red Bull BC One, I am hoping the South African culture and worldwide influence gets pushed to the forefront.

Lil John vs Reveal @ Small Town Crook

A couple weeks ago in what appears to be someone's lower deck or basement. Two, what I would call, legends battled in what appears to be the quarterfinals of this very small jam.  It really is one of the more random things I've seen a while in the scene.

    Hopefully More Vids To Come.

Bboy Corner: Bashville Stampede 4 Trailer

Bashville Stampede 4 Trailer from Brent Hopkins on Vimeo.

Thanks Qkong for throwing the event and I look forward to ANY event thrown in Nashville, TN.  One of the funnest times I've had at a jam in a minute.  Even if the music was at times quite suspect.  Memories forever. And when I'm not trying to sift through videos on their site, Vimeo is actually pretty cool [as a viewer...not an uploader].
